“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
We have just come through a great time of celebration.
Christmas was, and is, a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, ‘Emmanuel’, God in the flesh.
We also celebrated the New Year, the ‘birth’ of 2017…a time to look back, and a time to look forward.
As we’ve been looking forward, we here at KCC have tried to say that we are seeking to experience ‘Full Life’ in Jesus Christ–the full life that He promised in John 10:10. This is life with Him on the throne, His Word as the guide, and the Holy Spirit as the ‘power’ that enables us.
We’ve said that we want to be #GrowingDeeperGoingHigher together, as we seek the Lord more. We realize that ‘fullness’ only comes from Him.
Therefore, we are trying to identify and lay aside the things that take us off-track. As the writer of Hebrews wrote,
“…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)
We have said that our desire in 2017 is to really move forward with the Lord, letting Him take us to new levels of faith, new levels of intimacy with Him, new levels of power in the Spirit, and new levels of holiness in our lives.
Nothing could be more important.
In 2017, we stand on a precipice. The United States of America has flirted with ‘gods’ of this world for years, but recently has begun openly ‘thumbing our noses’ against the One True God, openly rebelling against His standards. We have elected a humanistic, self-centered, and short-sighted mindset and morality, and have basically told God and His Word to ‘take a hike’.
Most recently, we have elected leaders that seem bent on taking that mindset even further. Rather than call our nation to repent and turn back to God, we seem to be doubling down, thinking we can make ourselves great again.
I hope and pray for our leaders, including President-Elect Trump. I am praying that he humbles himself before the Lord, and encourages us to do so as well.
Yet, the bigger picture is this: The Church in America has fallen asleep. We have become complacent, comfortable that we are ‘safe and secure’ here, and frankly we’ve adopted the standards of this world.
The Church–the people of God–need to wake up. We need God to move in us again!
I was reminded this week of a passage in the book of Ezekiel where God gives him a vision…of dry bones.
Ezekiel 37:1-10: “The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3 He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”
I said, “Sovereign Lord, you alone know.”
4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5 This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath[a] enter you, and you will come to life. 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the Lord.’”
7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. 8 I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.
9 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’” 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.”
In many ways, the Church in America is like those ‘dry bones’…as is the Church throughout much of the world…but I believe that God is doing something again to breathe LIFE into those dry bones! I believe that God is calling us as His children (before any other identity) to revival! I believe that He is inviting us…imploring us…to repent of our sin (active and passive), to seek His face, and to ask Him to bring these ‘bones’ back together.
The Church of Jesus is being purified…being made ready for the next moves of God. These moves will require us to be prayerful, committed, and strong in our faith and in our fellowship.
We MUST ‘Grow Deeper’, so that we can ‘Go Higher‘!
Are you ready?
