December 9                 Manna from Heaven Stephanie Bynum

My Grandma Ruth introduced me to Jesus before I could even walk. She loved Jesus more than anyone I have ever known, her faith was strong.

Grandma Ruth loved to cook and bake almost as much as she loved Jesus.

Every year for Christmas she would sort through the recipes and ask me “Which ones should we make this year?”

We would sing hymns and Christmas songs and bake for hours.

One year we were making our favorite Pecan snowballs where you bake the cookies and then toss them in a bag of powdered sugar after they came out of the oven.

I don’t remember the song only that it has a line about raining manna from heaven. We were singing this song and shaking the cookies and powdered sugar was flying all over the kitchen, we couldn’t figure out why for the longest, it ended up that the cookies were so hot they melted a small hole in the bag, we laughed so hard and sang the song about raining manna from heaven all day long.

I love hearing and singing the old hymns it makes me think of her and how much she loved Jesus and how much she loved me.

What are your favorite things to bake at Christmastime?

Do you have any good memories of grandparents at Christmas?

Activity: Bake something together this year, and make 2—one for your    family, and one for an older person or neighbor.
