I love preparing for Christmas!
In our home, we have bins full of Christmas decor–LOTS of it!
We have garland, snowmen, Christmas tree ornaments, and lights for the house and trees. We have framed Christmas art for the wall, and of course, our bin of Christmas cd’s and dvd’s.
We love getting the bins out the weekend after Thanksgiving and taking several days to get everything ready.
…but if we only prepare our house, and not our hearts, we are missing the mark!
Many people do! They spend time, money and energy ‘decking the halls’ for Christmas but don’t spend any time preparing to ‘Worship Christ, the Newborn King’.
We can’t make that mistake.
This Christmas, we need to spend time in prayer…each day. We should read devotions every day, and try to insure that our minds and hearts are set on worshiping God, and not distracted by ‘stuff’–even Christmas stuff.
John the Baptist was all about preparing the way:
(Matthew 3:1-3) “In those days John the Baptist came to the Judean wilderness and began preaching. His message was, “Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” The prophet Isaiah was speaking about John when he said,
“He is a voice shouting in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord’s coming!
Clear the road for him!’”
Consider and discuss:
What are your favorite parts of ‘preparing’ for Christmas?
How can you make sure you’re ‘preparing’ your heart to worship Jesus?
